The Digital Animal Inside Us

As a collective species the human kind’s evolution as the current rulers of our planet was remarkable in the last four lakh years which is around 0.0001 percent since the earths’ birth. Our relationship with our surroundings and fellow animals and life organisms is complex and it is becoming conflict more than coexistence. The unfolding events like the mass elimination and extinction of small creatures and the warming up of the planet are defining our way of especially a microscopically minute
time period of last 200 years; for which simply we don’t care. Now, we are changing and fast changing ourselves. From the beginning phase of evolution itself, we shed away some of the properties of our fellow animals like we lost our tail and the tales of the tail miss - forget them. In the last two decades
or so, we are less mingling with our surroundings, forgetting to interact with the physical environment. We even don’t get sufficient time in these long days and nights to interact even with our fellow beings – only because of our digital engagements.
Our average screen time is getting higher than our sleep time and work time. Body is also changing. Men are becoming sedentary and to avoid the adverse health effects of it, we invented walking and running machines. We are not doing physical work and to avoid the physical problems of absence of physical activities, we are spending time in the gym so that we try to retain be physical properties of human beings.
There is a gentle absurdity in this. We invented machines so that we would not have to walk; then we invented walking machines so that we could walk without going anywhere.
We see and watch more life than we experience. We need maps to get to the nearest places and should get the support of tutorials to cook the food that our ancestors prepared.
Our emotions are smileyed and responses are texted. We love the people we follow; even though we cannot recognize them when we meet face to face physically.
A message can cross an ocean instantly, but a conversation across the dining table may never begin.
Our kids are not learning but viewing. The system also forced to suit to the life style of the people. Online learning and work from home are the new normals. Most importantly, our emotional exuberance is becoming subdued. Relationships are becoming meaningless in a world where physical engagements are minimized. Slowly, and steadily, we are becoming a new variety of animals – digital animals. In areas where humans are less mobile because of screen spending, animals are more visible. That is life and fortunately, they don’t have any screen time.

Slowly and steadily, we are becoming a new variety of animal: the digital animal. Its fingers move constantly, but its body remains still. Its eyes travel endlessly, but rarely rest on the horizon. It is connected to thousands, yet may have nobody to call. It knows what is happening everywhere, but is sometimes absent from its own life. Even you are reading these lines through your mobile phones, just sit straight and walk a little, so that you are okey to continue a healthy life. Afte this shot article, go and see how this world going forward and other creatures are living. Our life is beautiful.
